Lenin - bourgeoisie freedom of the press

‘‘For the bourgeoisie, freedom of the press meant freedom for the rich to publish and for the capitalists to control the newspapers, a practice which in all countries, including even the freest, produced a corrupt press’’

(Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, 1917)

  1. Hacking crisis edges closer to Tory Prime Minister

Neil Wallis the former News of the World Deputy Editor arrested last week, worked for the Conservative Party before last year's election.

Andy Coulson who resigned from the paper over the hacking affair later appointed Mr Cameron's director of communications.

David Cameron’s Chief of Staff, Ed Llewellyn appealed to Scotland Yard not to mention hacking during a Downing Street briefing in September 2010, four months before Mr Coulson quit his No 10 post.

Mr Cameron returned from a trip to Africa cut short by a growing crisis which is in danger of destabilising his premiership.

Sir Gus O'Donnell, the Cabinet Secretary, dismissed a complaint by the Labour MP John Mann that Mr Cameron had breached the ministerial code by meeting James Murdoch and Rebekah Brooks last Christmas while the Government was considering News Corporation's bid for full control of BSkyB.

  3. In a Commons statement Tory Prime Minister David Cameron said he was ‘‘extremely sorry’’ for the furore his appointment of Andy Coulson as his communications chief had caused and that with the benefit of ‘‘20:20 hindsight’’ he would not have given the former News of the World editor the job.
